Feast on Culture!

Pick: Feast on Culture!

Details: Thursday, July 28, 6:30 p.m. at Founders Hall, 100 N. Tryon St. Tickets: $20-$28.

Viewpoint: Earlier this week, First Lady Michelle Obama reminded us during her speech at the Democratic National Convention that, yes, this country was built on the backs of slaves. In the same vein, culinary historian and chef Michael W. Twitty has made it his duty to preserve the food traditions of enslaved African-Americans. He visits Charlotte for the inaugural discussion of a new series, dubbed Heritage & History, where he’ll talk about their under-appreciated contributions to the Southern dinner table, African identity and America’s tumultuous history with race. The series comes as a result of a partnership with the Harvey B. Gantt Center and Duke Energy.—Kimberly Lawson
