Carmella Jarvi

Carmella Jarvi / Artist

Carmella Jarvi is an artist best known for her paintings of women in pools and passion for business. She loves painting water and often shoots photographs - including underwater with goggles and weight belt - to paint from back in the studio. Sometimes she uses soft pastels on textured surfaces but she also uses acrylic or layered oil paint to create the impression of water. Her original works can be seen and purchased on www.carmellajarvi.com and in RedSky Gallery’s Elizabeth Avenue location in Charlotte.

Over the years, she has taught painting and marketing to other artists through the Arts & Science Council and a number of local arts councils and art groups. Recently, she has been writing about the Charlotte arts scene for the Knight Arts blog (part of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation).

Jarvi has received two Regional Project Artist Grants and was a summer 2010 Affiliate Artist at the McColl Center for Visual Art. This summer she was awarded an Arts & Science Council grant to work with the creative team of Packard Place, a new center for innovation and entrepreneurship in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, to curate their first gallery exhibition. This new gallery space will coincide with Packard Place’s grand opening later this year. (The Packard Place building at 222 South Church Street is being painted outside and is located across from the 3rd Street site for long awaited Romare Bearden Park.)

The gallery at Packard Place project is supported, in part, with funding from the Arts & Science Council.
